Composition Is Iterative Design
A problem rarely moves cleanly from idea to final diagram. Construction cycles through idea → matrix → test → defect → repair → retest → artistic refinement. A repair can introduce a new cook; removing a technical piece can change a flight; improving the key can weaken thematic clarity. Every structural change therefore reopens verification.
Build the Mechanism Before Decorating It

For serious work, save versions and the reason for each edit: “remove cook after 1.X,” “improve key by giving flight,” “replace technical rook,” “preserve changed-mate relation.” A construction log prevents circular edits and gives later judges or collaborators a reproducible history of how the final form emerged.
